BOB KIRKPATRICK

Bob has been singing songs since he was 17, when a friend unwittingly introduced him to folk music. Influenced by Ralph Mctell and Tom Paxton he eventually began to compose his own material, which he has recorded on several CDs.

And now he fronts the SUNRAY FOLK CLUB, held at the Broadmayne Village Hall.

Striving to make the club one of note!

And another side of Bob......Another side of Bob...

Rosemary Lane (Bob Kirkpatrick)

Amy Dances (Bob Kirkpatrick)

To sea no more (Bob Kirkpatrick)

Half a Murphy's

A Half of Murphy’s consists of Noeleen and Alex who are literally half of the Bournemouth based ceilidh band Murphy's Lore.

In the band, Noeleen and Alex are the rhythm section, providing a driving force behind the tune players. As a duo they perform mainly songs, some from the band's repertoire and some of their own choosing, mostly from the folk tradition and a few that have been 'folked up' or 'down' depending on how you look at it!

(and from Bob....These two people have proven very popular at the club and we appreciate their support)

The Lark in the Morning (Trad)
Blackwaterside (Trad/Oysterband)
Love will tear us apart (Ian Curtis/Oysterband)

JASON ROSSER

I am a traditional-style unaccompanied singer, whose voice was once described as being like "concrete" by a Dutch woman (I hope she meant it was strong); it was also said, admittedly by a girl who had drunk too much, to be good enough to sing the knickers off a nun.

Jason visited us from out of town- and it was well worth it!

And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda (Eric Bogle)

Carrying Nelson Home (Mike O'Connor

Bold Wolfe (Trad/Martin Carthy)

GEOFF CHIDLEY

The Banjo is the happiest instrument in whatever style it is played from trad bands to blue grass. I have never mastered plectrum playing, hence the individual finger style. But thanks to adaptations of the old romantic numbers for the 5 string banjo I can now combine the two.

A nightingale sang in Berkeley Square

Blue Moon

ALICE HARRALL

Alice sang as a child both at school and around the piano at home.  She continued to share her love of singing with her children when they were small.  Then six years ago she got up the courage to sing in local folk clubs.  Her repertoire includes songs from the middle ages to the present day.

The Leaves of Life (Traditional from Oxford Book of Carols)

A Rose Bud in June (Traditional collected by Cecil Sharp)

Billy Boy (Traditional Northumberland Keel Shanty)

STEVE SUTTON

Steve was inspired to learn guitar at school and has been performing in a variety of singing and dance bands since. Prefers variety to any particular genre; material includes traditional through music hall to modern and often with a fiddle tune thrown in.

Lots of little Soldiers (Matt McGinn)

Anybody Seen My Teeth (from the BBC)

Adieu Sweet Lovely Nancy (Trad)

EILEEN

The singing of Eileen can be traced back a long way to the days of Wareham Folk Club and Harvest, if not before. An unassuming singer, she always attracts a listening audience, who are then keen to join in. Her music is mainly traditional, and her singing is clear and precise.

P stands for Paddy ( )

DEREK BURGESS

...has sung at folk clubs around Dorset for many years, both solo and in harmony with Poole Bay Shantymen and Free Toast.

He enjoys the honour of being inducted into the Sunray Hall of Fame with his partner Kitty Vernon as twice-booked guests.

Old Whitby Harbour (Stan Graham)

Green to Grey (Nic Jones)

Tyneham (Mick Ryan)

Fippenny Piece

The former Rigs of Time trio, Charles and Sammy Upton with Steve Sutton, are joined by musicians Bill Bailey on clarinet and fiddle, and Vaughan Danning on bass guitar and vocals to form this new quintet.

The group's sound builds on the best of the old and takes their music on to some exciting arrangements of folk and jazz which they have been developing through improvisation and a rash abandonment of notation!

With warm hearted humour and a varied programme played by very experienced musicians, Fippenny Piece is set to entertain audiences everywhere.
